Times are difficult right now and so many Credit Repair services are popping up all over. Many of these companies are scams according to consumer reports; these companies often charge you an amount for just giving advice on how to repair your credit yourself. "Wait a minute? Isn't that what I'm paying you to fix it?"
Many of these credit repair companies charge hundreds of dollars and tell you they can make all your bad credit just disappear, therefore, making it easier to get a car loan or obtain additional credit cards. The money they charge, in fact, could be used to pay your debt down or used for other expenses.
You can repair your own credit by simply requesting a free credit report, yes free. You can do this by requesting it from one of the credit reporting bureaus directly or one online. You see, you are allowed, by law, one free report per year.
If you do choose to use a credit repair service, you might want to check out a debt reduction loan from your bank. You will want to speak with an employee who handles loans, to find out the amount of money you'll need to, or be able to, borrow. Bank lenders will want to help you because they see you are making an effort to repair your credit. The lender will pay off your creditors and leave you with enough income to manage your monthly payment.
If you decide to you speak to a credit repair company, you should be able to ask and receive information from them regarding what you can do to fix any bad credit yourself first. If they balk at this question, my advice is to hang up the phone and find a company who will answer your questions. Be very careful paying any money up front before receiving any credit services.
It is important for you to review your own credit history first; the reason being, that if a credit repair company asks you to dispute your entire credit history, and you proceed to do what they ask, you may be committing fraud. Some of the credit history may indeed be incorrect, but not all, or in some cases, most of it. So again, make sure to look over your credit history first yourself. Credit repair services cannot remove any bad or poor marks from your credit report. The only negative items that can be removed are ones that you can prove are incorrect.
Bottom line is to start making regular scheduled payments on time or to work with creditors on making smaller payments. This will show up in your favor on your credit report. Your credit report is important and you need to watch over it regularly. You can repair your own credit and not have to depend on other companies that charge hundreds of dollars to do what you can do yourself!
